The guide below shows the basics about starting a simple HomeWatch Group or Scheme within in the Maghull & Lydiate HomeWatch Association umbrella.
It is far less involved and a much smaller commitment than you might fear.
Everyone in your group will receive a Homewatch Triangle for your window, to show potential burglars that you are security conscious and hence not an soft target.
You will also be able to buy SMARTWATER for the rediculously low price of £15 (with free registration for life)
A quick guide ~
Mr Alan Bowler or Mr Ian Kelty (Member Liaison) can visit you to give more details / answer further questions and we have literature for you to show you & your neighbours, but briefly ...
1st ~
great idea about joining us.
2nd ~
Someone fantastic in your Road, hopefully yourself, or 'you & yours' becomes the "HomeWatch Coordinator, or Scheme Leader" for your Road and forms a 'HomeWatch Group' with as many, or as few neighbours (now members) as YOU choose (the more members around you the better your own security)
3rd ~
All groups are advised to buy the £10 'road-sign' from the Association (shared between all of your members)The Council will put it up on a suitable lamppost for you free of charge.
4th ~
Once a month your 'Area Coordinator' will drop an envelope through your letterbox containing your requested number of A4 Newsletters (we ask for a list of the house numbers in your group, not names)~ just fold & post them through your member's doors.
There is no other commitment
5th ~ You should all get a discount when you renew your home insurance :o)
You will not be signing your life away and you are not even expected to attend the monthly meeting, but would be warmly welcomed anytime.
I started in 2001 by getting 45 neighbours into "my" group in Moorland Road
~
each gladly gave £1 so we could buy 3 road signs.Like most people,
I only knew a few close neighbours when I started out, so it made our section of the road more sociable too and I even swapped phone numbers with a lot of them (not a HomeWatch requirement)
O
ne groups have just 8 members; the largest is 167 ~ the more the merrier & safer your road becomes.
I can answer any questions via email.
Remember . . . Be safe, Be secure & Check who is at the Door
. . . If in doubt, keep them out & contact the police.
